Riviera Maya, Q.R. — Riviera Maya weekend traffic was off to a rough start with the rollover of a cement truck Friday. Emergency services were sent to the site of the single vehicle mishap where they found the truck on its side.
The accident was reported several kilometers south of the city of Playa del Carmen along the federal highway. Motorists driving along the southern route reported seeing the driver plow through the median and land on its side.
Local firemen were some of the first on scene where the truck had crossed the median and landed in the shoulder in the opposite lane.

Paramedics provided first aid to the driver who received only minor bumps and bruises.
After being medically evaluated, the cement truck driver told police that he swerved to avoid a car that had cut him off. In an attempt to avoid a collision, the swerve, combined with the weight of the truck, caused him to ended up overturned after driving over the central median.
The accident happened early Friday before highway traffic started for the weekend. For the most part, Riviera Maya motorists were not affected by the accident, only slightly slowed while emergency vehicles arrived and a tow truck up-righted the cement truck.
