Cancun, Q.R. — A section of the highway that extends from the junction of Cancun’s Huayacán Avenue that connects with Chetumal will be widened to four lanes.
Governor of Quintana Roo announced the expansion of the key highway during the March Tianguis Turístico México 2023.
Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa revealed that highway 180 will be expanded from the Huayacán Avenue junction to the highway toward Chetumal from two to four lanes.
She says the road expansion project is thanks to an agreement with the Federal Government and the Secretariat of Infrastructure, Communications and Transportation (SICT).
“In an agreement with the federal government, the Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications and Transportation (SICT), they will begin the project which includes expanding highway 180 from two to four lanes,” she said.
Lezama said that while there is no cost or start date yet, they are expecting to begin the project sometime this year. Once complete, it will speed up Cancun airport traffic into the city.
