Cancun, Q.R. — A Cancun taxi driver was taken into custody Thursday for resisting arrest and assaulting a police officer. The driver was stopped by police after he was seen speeding “which put the safety of other drivers and passers-by at risk.”
Police attempted to pull him over on Avenida 20 de Noviembre in SM 221 where “he took evasive behavior and began to drive recklessly to escape.” Police eventually caught up with him and detained him for a physical inspection, they reported.
“During the procedure, Gheiler “N” maintained an aggressive attitude against police, launching blows and verbal attacks for which he was arrested,” the Secretaría de Seguridad Ciudadana (SSC) of Quintana Roo explained.
It is the second time in as many days that a Cancun public driver has been arrested for physically assaulting Cancun City Police.
On Wednesday, a Cancun combi driver was arrested after being videoed physically assaulting a Cancun Transit Officer who attempted to arrest him for driving while intoxicated.
