Cancun, Q.R. — A traffic officer ended up in the hospital with fractures after being the victim of a hit and run. The officer was hit Monday night by a Cancun motorist while he was manually directing traffic in an area without lights.
The incident happened in SM 51 along Nichupté Avenue when police officer, 26-year-old Angel N, was struck by the car after its driver ignored directions.
Paramedics arrived to treat and transfer the injured officer to hospital with several cracked bones. Fellow municipal traffic officers also arrived at the site, but were unable to help.
Police were called to the scene to investigate. With the aid of city security feed, they learned that the car involved in the hit and run was a Chevy Spark. They also learned that the driver was 55-year-old José N. He was located along Av. Chichen Itzá in SM 1 and arrested.
