Cancun convict imprisoned since 2012 found dead inside cell

Cancun, Q.R. — A Cancun prisoner was reported dead inside the municipal facilities Monday morning. The 56-year-old inmate was found dead inside his cell of the Social Readaptation Center (Cereso) of Cancun around 9:30 a.m.

He had been imprisoned since 2012, serving time for rape. In a brief statement, the Secretaría de Seguridad Ciudadana de Quintana Roo reported “In relation to the death of a person inside the Cereso of Cancun, the now deceased was a 56-year-old person who was serving a sentence for the crime of rape since 2012.

The now-deceased “suffered from diabetes and hypertension and whose disease led him to lose a leg five years ago.”

The agency added that he did not display any signs of injury when found in his cell and that he was transferred to SEMEFO for the corresponding investigations.
