Boyfriend arrested in death of Isla Mujeres woman

Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — A man alleged to have once been in a relationship with a woman who was recently discovered deceased has been arrested. In a press release, the Attorney General of the state reported the detainment and official charges against Eduardo P for kidnapping.

Eduardo P, of foreign origin, was arrested days after the discovery of the body of a woman found floating in the sea near Cabo Catoche, an area about 53 kilometers north of Cancun. Ten days after the discovery, the Attorney General released the positive identity of the woman as that of 62-year-old Regine Beatrix Roessler, a German resident of Isla Mujeres.

The Attorney General says that Eduardo P was taken into custody after an investigation that lead them to searching both his Isla Mujeres home and boat. Authorities say the man, who is said to have been the boyfriend of Roessler, “probably caused injuries that caused the death.”

Eduardo P will remain jailed during his criminal process.
