Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — The bodies of four Isla Mujeres fishermen reported missing Sunday have been found. The men were reported to authorities after they failed to return from a fishing expedition.
All four bodies were found in the area of the Islache reefs near Isla Contoy. The search operation began Sunday by other local fishermen as well as municipal search and rescue officials.
The four set sail in their vessel Frigate, which was found abandoned late Sunday. The four fishermen have been identified as Luis Fernando Pérez Rosique, Sergio Camal Canul, Rigoberto Tun Pool and Julio César Dorantes Domínguez.
Local island fishermen began their search around Isla Mujeres Sunday but expanded when they were not found. Three of the bodies were found together Monday, and the fourth, later that same day.
The bodies were transferred to the Navy base in Puerto Juárez in Cancun. Local authorities have not provided a public report on the cause of their deaths.
