Cancun, Q.R. — Cancun firemen were able to locate and control an ammonia leak at an ice factory in Cancun. The leak was reported by factory workers late Monday night. Emergency first responders arrived at the business in SM 95 where they confirmed the leak.
Personnel from inside the ice making company, along with nearby residents, were evacuated from the area while Cancun firemen and Civil Protection dealt with the issue.
Firemen found a 200-liter tank leaking. The leak was enough to effect two firemen and one citizen who were treated at the scene by paramedics. Authorities were able to shut off the tank and stop the leak.
Residents were allowed back into their homes and roads were reopened to traffic along Avenue Chichén and Avenue Comalcalco leading to the industrial area. Cancun Civil Protection continue to investigate the cause of the leak.
