Chetumal, Q.R. — The state government has applied a filter at the entrance and exit points of the capital city of Chetumal that begins to monitor traffic starting 8:00 p.m. The points are monitored by police and health officials in a bid to control cases of coronavirus.
Alberto Capella, Secretary of Public Security confirmed the filter, noting that vehicles with food and supplies will have free pass and that all private vehicles will be pulled over for questioning.
“CHETUMAL WILL CLOSE. We can confirm as a scoop that the state capital will be armored from today on in order to prevent the spread of the covid virus 19,” Capella wrote on social media.
“Together with the health authorities, we will be VERY STRICT at the entrances and exits of Chetumal at the point of our review arc. Those who DO NOT HAVE AN URGENT NEED TO ENTER OR EXIT will be encouraged to return to their homes. It is for the health of ALL,” he added.
The Government of Quintana Roo says entry points into the city have been closed, and that filters are monitored by police and elements of the National Guard. Governor Carlos Joaquín issued recommendations for immediate application in Chetumal to protect people’s health, asking everyone to stay at home.
