Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — Two males have been confirmed in custody after a shooting on mainland Isla Mujeres. Hundreds of people, mostly students, were evacuated from the area Thursday after a hitman attack that left two dead.

The incident happened in the La Cristiana neighborhood on the mainland of Isla Mujeres leaving left two dead and two others hurt. The victims were standing on the street outside a home when they were targeted Thursday morning. Two of the four shot died at the scene.
Police have said one of the dead is a minor and one of the surviving injured is a teen with a criminal record. They reported that according to initial investigations, the shooting is related to drug dealing and motorcycle theft.
Municipal authorities reported that several hundred people, including students and teachers, were evacuated from nearby schools located across from the site of the attack.

Ministerial authorities confirmed that two individuals, identified as adolescents in the deadly attack, were arrested in the La Cristiana neighborhood. They were tracked down using city C5 surveillance. Their motorcycle and a loaded firearm were seized at the time of their arrests.
In a statement, authorities reported “The FGE Quintana Roo reports the arrest of two adolescents, related to the events that occurred in the Continental Zone of Isla Mujeres, which left two dead and two injured by gunshot wounds.
“The detainees were placed at the disposal of the Public Prosecutor’s Office of the Specialized Prosecutor for the Investigation of Crimes Committed by Adolescents, who will define their legal situation.
“It should be noted that the initial line of investigation of this event is related to drug dealing and motorcycle theft.”
