Armed pair apprehended after chase through Cancun streets

Cancun, Q.R. — For the second time in as many days, armed youths have been located roaming Cancun streets. On Monday, police were successful in apprehending two youths in SM 63 after seeing two suspicious men on a motorcycle.

Their arrests were made around 3:00 p.m. Monday after a central city chase. Police finally apprehended the pair after they became cornered in a vacant lot. Cancun officers found a weapon on one of the arrested males.

Municipal Police were carrying out tours in SM 63 when they came across two suspicious subjects on board a motorcycle. When police tried to pull them over, the driver accelerated and fled. A chase through central Cancun began.

After requesting assistance, police were able to locate the pair using the city’s C5 cameras. The two subjects tried to escape by entering a vacant lot on Torcasita Avenue, however, they were corned and arrested.

On Saturday, a 42-year-old Cancun police officer was shot and killed while responding to a similar report of armed youths in Cancun streets. Police were part of a foot chase of four youths when one turned around and began to fire. Police fired back, but not before one of the officers was shot in the head.

An 18-year-old male was arrested from the scene. He is believed to be the alleged shooter, however, police have not officially announced charges.
