Felipe Carrillo Puerto, Q.R. — A man escorted to hospital by police after being shot in the knee has been arrested on outstanding warrants. Ricardo “N” was kept in police custody after being hospitalized Friday night.
He was shot in the knee by municipal police officers who were confronted by an armed Ricardo “N” Friday night while responding to the report of gun fire inside a bar. At the bar, police were threatened by the now-detained man who, they later found out, had two outstanding arrest warrants.
According to the State Attorney General, Ricardo “N” was wanted for homicide and kidnapping in Tulum.
The State Attorney General’s Office reports that in coordination with the Municipal Police of Felipe Carrillo Puerto, they captured Ricardo “N”, a priority objective, a generator of violence in the municipality of Tulum who had two arrest warrants for his probable participation in crimes of homicide and kidnapping, they detailed in a statement.
“The arrest was carried out when the Felipe Carrillo Puerto Police responded to a report about alleged firearm detonations in an establishment located on 50th Street in the Lázaro Cárdenas neighborhood.
“Upon arriving at the scene, the agents were attacked by Ricardo “N”, who was wounded in the left knee by a gunshot when the municipal agents repelled the attack.
“During the routine search, the detainee was seized with a firearm. He was transferred to the municipality of Othón P. Blanco, where he received medical attention,” they said.
Authorities also said that field, cabinet and technological investigations related Ricardo “N” as a hitman leader of a criminal group that operates in the municipality of Tulum. The group is trying to expand its presence toward Playa del Carmen, carrying out illicit activities such as drugs, extortion, kidnappings and homicide.
Ricardo “N” was found with two outstanding arrest warrants, one for qualified homicide of two people which occurred on July 5, 2023 in the municipality of Tulum. The second for qualified homicide and deprivation of personal liberty of a man that occurred on August 18, 2023, also in Tulum.
