An Isla Mujeres woman accused of being a cartel member shot dead outside her home

Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — A woman in her early 40s was shot dead outside her Isla Mujeres home Tuesday night. According to preliminary information, it was around midnight when the unidentified woman was approached by a man from a car who physically assaulted her then shot her dead.

The shooting was reported in the Del Bosque neighborhood of the Continental Mainland of Isla Mujeres. When police arrived, they found a large handwritten message in red letters on a white cloth that read, “We announce the cleanup of rats, extortionists and fee collectors” and was addressed to “el Cartel”.

The area was cordoned off while police collected evidence and the medical examiner removed the dead woman’s body. Police checkpoints were set up along main roadways between Isla Mujeres and Cancun in an attempt to find those responsible, however, there were no arrests made.
