Alternate Perimetral del Mar Caribe road on Isla Mujeres nearing completion

Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — An alternate road being built at Perimetral del Mar Caribe is nearly finished. Mayor Atenea Gómez Ricalde toured the new road Monday as it nears completion.

“We continue working steadily and responsibly to provide the community with a safe and functional roadway,” stated Atenea Gómez during the tour. The alternate road is being built on the Caribbean Sea Perimetral Highway following a landslide caused in recent months by Hurricane Helen in 2024.

During the tour, the Mayor verified the progress of the work and personally inspected the pouring stage of the road base to ensure the strength and durability of the infrastructure, which will provide a definitive solution to the problem caused by the landslide.

Gómez says the Municipal Government acted promptly in response to the emergency, enabling a temporary detour that has maintained connectivity and safe traffic in the area.
