Puerto Morelos, Q.R. — A highway crash between a hotel staff bus and semi trailer has sent a dozen to hospital. The accident was reported by motorists early Sunday morning along a stretch of Cancun-Puerto Morelos roadway.
Emergency units arrived at the scene of the 7:00 a.m. accident where they located a bus whose driver crashed into the back of a semi. The highway speed impact completely demolished the front of the bus and sent the semi into a CFE power pole.
During the medical evaluation by paramedics, 12 people from aboard the hotel staff bus were deemed injured enough to be transferred to Cancun hospital. Another 10 were treated on site for minor injuries.
Firemen from Puerto Morelos also attended to the scene to assist with the injured and roadway cleanup.
According to preliminary information, the driver of the bus was attempting to pass a car by using the highway shoulder when he hit the back of the parked semi.
