Cancun, Q.R. — Approximately 650 hotel guests were evacuated from a hotel in the Cancun Hotel Zone Sunday. A fire reported on the fifth floor saw the evacuation of all guests and staff.
Reports say around 30 hotel guests were trapped on various floors due to the smoke. Firemen rescued some guests from their rooms, while others were stuck in elevators.
Cancun firemen arrived and were able to extinguish flames before they spread. Guests of the hotel were sent outside to the rear of the hotel where they waited for several hours.
Civil Protection said that there were no injuries in the hotel fire, located at Kilometer 10 of the Cancun Hotel Zone. Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the fire.
