10 rescued from burning boat off coast of Isla Mujeres

Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — Ten people were removed from the sea after their boat caught fire off Isla Mujeres. The rescue happened Sunday night after authorities received an emergency call for assistance.

On Monday, the Secretariat of the Navy of Mexico reported personnel assigned to this Command rescued 10 people that were located 2.5 nautical miles (five kilometers) southwest of Isla Mujeres.

They were rescued after authorities received an emergency call at the Naval Search, Rescue and Maritime Surveillance Station of Isla Mujeres in which it was reported that a vessel named Kema was on fire and was with crew on board.

Navy personnel set sail and located the crew in the sea. They were returned to port and evaluated. No injuries were reported. There was no word on what caused the boat to catch fire.
