Othón P. Blanco, Q.R. — Authorities in the Mayan town of Palmer have arrested a man for attempted homicide. The man was handcuffed and hauled away by police Monday after a woman requested their assistance.
The woman, identified only as a 60-year-old resident, hailed down a passing patrol unit to ask for help. While doing so, a man with a machete came running up behind her. He was subsequently arrested.
According to the woman, the man with the machete was her 30-year-old son-in-law Luis “N” and was attacking her with the machete.
In a police statement, “elements of the Secretariat of Citizen Security were on surveillance tours in the town of Palmar on Aldama Street in the municipality of Othón P. Blanco when they noticed the presence of a woman of approximately 60 years old who addressed the unit making signs and asking for help.
“Behind her came a man running who, in his right hand, was holding a machete with an orange and rust-colored handle, approximately 40 centimeters long.
“Given the incident, the officers approached the woman to protect her, reporting at that time that the subject who was attacking her was her son-in-law. Luis “N”, 30 years old.
“He was immediately arrested and transferred to the facilities of the Special Prosecutor’s Office to Combat the Crime of Femicide.”
