Xalapa, Veracruz — The Attorney General’s Office (FGR) in the State of Veracruz seized dozens of wildlife from two private homes. The seizure was made during searches Saturday.
The FGR says two properties located in Xalapa, Veracruz were searched by officers who located various exotic animals. The Federal Ministerial Police (PFM), the Criminal Investigation Agency (AIC) and Municipal Police carried out the searches in personal homes of the El Aguacatal and Progreso Macuiltepetl areas of the city of Xalapa.
From the properties, federal agents seized four hawks, eight owls, 22 birds, two crocodiles, eight turtles, seven snakes, seven tarantulas, five hedgehogs, three frogs, three lizards, two chameleons, a scorpion and a lizard, which were marketed through social networks.
One person was arrested during the search and subsequent seizure. The exotic animals are under the protection of the Management Unit for the conservation of wildlife in Xalapa.
