Severely backed up traffic result of Puerto Morelos highway accident

Puerto Morelos, Q.R. — A lengthy line of backed up traffic was the effect of a two vehicle crash along a section of Puerto Morelos highway. On Wednesday afternoon, a small cargo vehicle and large garbage truck collided.

The accident happened just outside the town of Puerto Morelos that left at least two vehicles heavily damaged. Transit officials arrived to a roadway mess after the garbage truck plowed through a section of central highway median, breaking the concrete and downing a light pole that also left broken glass scattered over the road.

The small cargo truck was left skewered on a metal guard rail, while a third vehicle, a transport van, was mildly involved after a near-miss with the out of control garbage truck.

Puerto Morelos emergency personnel were at the scene Wednesday afternoon to gather information and clear the severely back up Cancun-facing highway as quickly as possible. The cause of the accident is not clear.
