Several palapas lost in out of control burn

José María Morelos, Q.R. — Several palapas were consumed by a fire that started Tuesday in the San Antonio Tuc neighborhood on the outskirts of the town.

Neighbors alerted emergency personnel to the 8:00 p.m. fire, which burned about half a kilometer north of the entrance to José María Morelos. Flames were quick to spread to other nearby structures, causing police and firemen to rush to the scene.

Firemen were successful in eventually extinguishing the fires, but not before several palapas were claimed. While an official investigation remains in progress, preliminary reports say the fire was likely started from a garbage burn that became out of control.
