A *silver) semi driver hauling a double long bed was attempting a U-turn from the far right lane. As he cross over the lanes to his left, he was struck by a semi (red) who came up beside him heading in the same direction.

The red semi slammed into the silver semi just behind the cab, causing it to buckle and partially overturn.

Fluid and debris were scattered around the site that left both units inoperable. Traffic was left temporarily paralzed in both directions. Firemen from Puerto Morelos were at the scene due to the large fluid spill.

A dump truck was brought in to scatter dirt across the highway to absorb the large puddles of black fluid and prevent further spreading and contamination.

The accident happened in the southbound lanes, however, the semi performing the U-turn was responsible for the fluid leak that altered traffic in the northbound lanes.

Motorists found themselves stuck in traffic for more than an hour Monday May 4, 2026.

Authorities were on scene for more than an hour clearing the debris and fluids while industrial tow trucks removed the damaged semis. Neither driver was seriously injured in the accident.
