Residents of Mahahual neighborhood want municipal inclusion for streets and lighting

Mahahual, Q.R. — Residents of Las Casitas in Mahahual took to the streets and demonstrated over the weekend due to a lack of attention. The residents say they are in need of state support due to ongoing neighborhood problems.

One of the biggest problems the residents want addressed is their not being included in the municipality. They say that for years, the person in charge of including their residental area in the municipality has done nothing.

Residents were demonstrating with banners reporting their streets remain unpaved, there is no public lighting or regular garbage collection and they have unstable electricity from the Federal Electricity Commission.

Angry residents were out Saturday in hopes of drawing the attention of authorities including Governor Mara Lezama and Othón P Blanco Mayor, Yensunni Martínez Hernández.

The group also says they are the subject of insecurity issues due to the lack of public lighting.
