Bacalar, Q.R. — A proposal has been made to carry out the processing of the operating rules of the Bacalar Lagoon. The proposal came from the XVI Legislature of the State who issued an injunction to the Harbor Master and Maritime Affairs Unit of the Secretary of the Navy to manage the installation of a captaincy in Bacalar.
According to the proposal, the objective is to monitor and supervise the operation of the navigation of small vessels on the Bacalar Lagoon. They are also urging the Port Authority of Chetumal to, within the scope of their powers and obligations and in the absence of a captaincy in Bacalar, carry out the necessary processes to regularize permits for the provision of maritime passenger transport services and nautical tourism for the lagoon.
The appeal also included the Comprehensive Port Administration of Quintana Roo (Apiqroo).
Deputy José Luis Guillén López said “I propose to urge the Quintana Roo Port Administration (Apiqroo) to issue these operating rules on navigation in the lagoon, rules that establish schedules, forms of maritime traffic, be it crossings, routes, tourist services or any other that is considered necessary.”
The proposal was made after years of operating issues on the Bacalar Lagoon. It is hoped that competent authorities will provide the permits as well as regulate port operations.
