Puerto Morelos, Q.R. — A new tourist information booth is up and running in central Puerto Morelos. The booth was put into operation late last month in the Old Town of Puerto Morelos.
In a statement, the government of Puerto Morelos reported that the module is located in Fundadores Park in the Old Town. Mayor Blanca Merari Tziu Muñoz had the booth installed to help assist area tourists.
Verónica Ambrosio Sánchez, the Director of Visitor Assistance and Orientation, explained that in the first days of operation, of the tourist information module, which coincided with the low season, it served around 20 vacationers per day, but currently has increased to 40 and is expected to rise to more than 60 in the coming weeks.
She explained that the information they request has to do mainly with the location of a specific place such as an exchange house, a craft market or super market. She says they have assisted tourists from the United States, Belgium, Canada, Spain and Mexico, among other countries.
“For the first time in the history of the municipality we have an infrastructure designed especially to serve our visitors who require various information from where to locate a restaurant or money exchange, to how to get to an ecotourism park or some other point in Puerto Morelos,” said Miguel Cámara Ruiz, Municipal Secretary of Sustainable Tourism.
The official said that the mayor has placed great emphasis on designing more strategies to strengthen tourism activity since it is the economic engine of Puerto Morelos and is also a generator of jobs, development and well-being for communities and families.
“For tourists to get a good image from their visit to the destination is something fundamental for us as a municipal public administration because that strengthens repetitive tourism and means word-of-mouth promotion in their places of origin, which is very effective,” he said.
Miguel Cámara indicated that the municipal government works hand in hand with the State, the Federation and all sectors involved in the hospitality industry, to continue positioning Puerto Morelos as its own brand in the global tourism arena.
“That teamwork has given us good results with successful vacation seasons,” he highlighted adding that the booth is operational daily from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
