Military destroys over 300 seized weapons from state operations

Costa Maya, Q.R. — Personnel from the Secretariat of National Defense (Sedena) destroyed more than 300 weapons seized in the state of Quintana Roo. The destruction of 325 weapons was in addition to the destruction of 10,665 cartridges and 289 magazines.

The items were destroyed Saturday at the Cavalry Regiment military facilities in the south of the state. The weapons destroyed had been seized through operations and searches carried out by federal and state authorities in Quintana Roo.

The process of destroying the weapons was carried out following the “Systematic Operating Procedure for the Control, Destruction and Lawful Use of Confiscated Firearms.”

Narciso Valadez Nájera, Commander of the 7th Motorized Cavalry Regiment where the items were destroyed, said 98 had been decommissioned by various police corporations due to their deterioration and lack of usefulness.

The remaining 227 weapons had been seized during operations carried out by state and federal security forces in the course of criminal investigations and were discarded once the corresponding legal processes were concluded.

Valadez Nájera also pointed out that the destruction of these weapons contributes to freeing up evidence storage areas and guaranteeing the proper disposal of this type of evidence.
