Cozumel, Q.R. — Approximately 100 million pesos will be invested in upgrades for the San Miguelito treatment plant in Cozumel. Governor Mara Lezama made the announcement over the weekend.
She said the 100 million is part of the 2025 of investments expected in Cozumel projects to benefit island residents. Lezama said that the investments are part of a comprehensive strategy to strengthen the infrastructure and economic development of Cozumel, especially in key sectors such as tourism and basic services.
During the year, the plant has been reported operating at half its capacity with sewage overflows in urban areas.
“We are working hand-in-hand with the three levels of government to analyze priority projects, ensuring that neighborhood committees and all citizens are taken into account for the development of the place where they live,” said Mara Lezama.
The Governor also reported meetings held with island businessmen to address issues of economic interest and the future of Cozumel tourism, reaffirming her commitment to citizen participation in the planning and execution of projects that directly impact the quality of life of Cozumel residents.
The investment in the Planta de Tratamiento de Aguas Residuales of San Miguelito is just one of the initiatives that reflect the state government’s intention to address priority needs, she said, while promoting economic and tourism growth in the region.
