INE validates four winning candidates in Quintana Roo

Cancún, Q. R. — Although ballot counting continues, four people have been handed their validations of the results of the electoral voting from June 6. The Local Council of the National Electoral Institute (INE) has reported four winners.

The four include Juan Carrillo Soberanis as the winner in District 1, Anahí González Hernández for District 2, Laura Fernández for District 4 and Alberto Batun Chulim for District 3.

The El Consejo Local del Instituto Nacional Electoral (INE) en Quintana Roo continues with counts for in the districts corresponding to Playa del Carmen, Chetumal and Cancun noting that if needed, electoral packages will be opened for a recount of the votes in order to providee certainty to the process. The INE expects the computations to end on June 11.

The presiding counselor, Claudia Rodriguez Sánchez indicated that in accordance with the provisions of article 225, paragraph 5 of the General Law of Electoral Institutions and Procedures, the INE continues with the third stage of the electoral process, corresponding to the results and the declaration of validity of the elections.

She said that hundreds of electoral packages are being counted and that once complete, winners will be notified accompanied by a certificate that will be delivered by Relative Majority to the elected candidate, who will be sworn into office in September.

In Felipe Carrillo Puerto, the President Counselor of the Electoral Institute of Quintana Roo Miguel Arroyo Sánchez reported that four electoral packages from polling stations presented some “incidents” and will be sent for a recount on June 13.

Ballot recounts have also been requested for Solidaridad (Playa del Carmen) and the municipality of Benito Juarez (Cancun). There is no date as to when an official recount will be concluded.
