Riviera Maya, Q.R. — Residents of Quintana Roo renewing driver’s licenses will no longer be required to take a test. On Wednesday, the Mobility Institute of Quintana Roo (Imoveqroo) updated the renewal requirements.
Residents who arrive at Imoveqroo with a valid expired or about to expire driver’s license will not have to take the written or driving test to renew. Residents who arrive at Imoveqroo without a previously issued license will be treated as first time and will be required to test.
According to Rodrigo Alcázar Urrutia, the Director of the Instituto de Movilidad de Quintana Roo (Imoveqroo), only first time drivers or drivers who cannot produce a previous license will be required to test.
Alcázar Urrutia clarified that the driver’s license presented to renew must not be altered in any way to be accepted.
The change was announced January 10, 2024 after a shaky first week of Imoveqroo issuing driver’s licenses in the state’s municipalities. Aside from failing equipment that created long lines, people showing up to renew were angered about the additional testing requirement that took place in another building.
Residents of Quintana Roo in need of a driver’s license renewal must arrive with the original and a copy of the application to obtain a driver’s license, the updated CURP, INE credential or valid passport, proof of address with your name no more than three months old (Telmex), the corresponding payment receipt and the previous issued license.
According to Imoveqroo, “To carry out the procedure, the person must comply with the following requirements in original and copy, which must not have alterations.
Original license expired: If the original expired license is not delivered, the driver’s license issuance process will be treated as a first time.
For the issuance of driver’s licenses Type B, C and E, (Type B is a license for a private vehicle), they must present the results of the following exams: medical certificate issued by public institutions and/or natural or legal persons accredited by Imoveqroo and a toxicological certificate issued by public and/or personal physical or moral institutions accredited by Imoveqroo.
