Felipe Carrillo Puerto, Q.R. — Governor Mara Lezama says work to finish the beach access road in Felipe Carrillo Puerto has resumed. She confirmed the move forward Thursday during her program La Voz del Pueblo.

She said after meeting the Felipe Carrillo Puerto ejidos, an agreement was reached and the work resumed. Heavy machinery was sent to the Puerta al Mar road in Vigía Chico to continue construction.
Lezama explained that at the public hearing this past Tuesday, she held talks with members of the ejidos and after settling differences and reaching agreements, it was agreed that there will be a Puerta al Mar for Felipe Carrillo Puerto for the benefit of those who live in this municipality.
During the program, Lezama said it has taken many months to get to this point of the long-awaited project. She pointed out that there were negotiations with the then President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, guaranteeing Conap and Semarnat that the Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve would not be damaged by the construction of an artisanal road.
“History will mark a before and after with the entrance to the coast that belongs to Felipe Carrillo Puerto. There were many opportunities to create the entrance to the sea and we defended them together with the President. Then other issues arose and the project was closed,” explained the Governor.

However, she was pleased to announce that the project has been restarted following a great desire to resolve the differences. She thanked all those who participated in the meetings and in the agreements to resume this gateway to the sea.
