Government of Mexico reports extradition of criminal head to face New York charges

Toulca, State of Mexico — The Government of Mexico has reported the extradition of Mexican national Rigoberto Andrade Renteria to U.S. authorities in New York on drug and criminal association charges.

The gobierno de México says Andrade Renteria, who is the brother of criminal gang leader Ignacio Andrade, was handed over to U.S. authorities at the International Airport of Toluca in compliance with their extradition treaty.

The Attorney General of the Republic reported that Andrade Renteria is required by a Federal Court in New York where he is to face charges for his alleged participation in drug-related criminal associations.

Andrade Renteria and his brother are said tied to the criminal organization La Familia Michoacana. Authorities say Andrade Renteria was in charge of trafficking synthetic drugs made by his brother into the United States. The drugs were made in different clandestine laboratories and also distributed throughout the territory of the state of Michoacán.

Andrade Renteria was arrested by the Mexican military in January 2011 during an operation in Tijuana, Baja California. He was taken into custody with two others believed members of the criminal organization.
