Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — During a press conference, Oscar Montes de Oca announced the capture of Juan H in collaboration with authorities in the state of Yucatán, who is believed a main operator in business extortions in Playa del Carmen.
The Attorney General of Quintana Roo reported that Juan H, one of the main operators of floor right extortionists aimed at businessmen and merchants from the municipality of Solidaridad, was arrested on a street in Mérida and transferred to the Solidaridad Retention Center.
In his press conference, he said that according to investigations, Juan H sent extortive messages to business owners demanding money in exchange for not “causing damage” to their family members, who Juan H threatened, had already been located.
Montes de Oca revealed that members of this criminal cell also placed threatening messages with the intention of generating fear in their victims and subsequently sent text messages to exert more pressure.
Montes de Oca Rosales said that during the investigation, it was possible to establish that Juan H had links with the criminal group to which Jonathan N belonged, the former leader of the criminal cell known as Los Pelones who was arrested in October last year.
Oscar Montes de Oca confirmed that the arrest, which occurred Monday afternoon, was derived from an arrest warrant. There are already four complaints filed against Juan H. Montes de Oca expects there will be more.
The arrest came just days after head of Public Security Alberto Capella Ibarra, announced a new strategy to take down criminal cells extorting Playa del Carmen businesses.
