Bacalar, Q.R. — Two people were taken to hospital with serious injures after a highway crash outside Bacalar. The accident had holiday highway traffic backed up for kilometers.
The two-vehicle crash happened after one vehicle attempted to pass another. In doing so, the driver invaded the oncoming lane and was met by another vehicle. The two crashed nearly head on, sending one car as a crumpled heap of metal into highway brush.
From the offending vehicle, two people were rushed to hospital. One is reported to be in critical condition, while the second person, the driver, has been arrested for impaired driving.
A tow truck was eventually called in to remove the two vehicles from the roadway and free up the highway for holiday travelers.
