Central Puerto Morelos launches its first free Wi-Fi hotspots

Puerto Morelos, Q.R. — The town of Puerto Morelos has launched its first free Wi-Fi hotspots. People with mobile devices can now take advantage of free Internet in the town’s center through the two new modules.

Governor Mara Lezama inaugurated the new public internet modules Sunday along with Puerto Morelos Mayor Blanca Merari Tziu and the Secretary of Tourism, Bernardo Cueto Riestra.

Governor Lezama said they new public modules are part of the commitment to bring free, high-speed public connectivity to tourist destinations in the Mexican Caribbean.

Central Puerto Morelos now has Wi-Fi hotspots January 11, 2026.

She said the free Wi-Fi is the result of coordinated work between the State Government and the digital transformation company Gignet, as part of a comprehensive strategy to strengthen tourist destinations and directly support local communities.

“This infrastructure improves the tourist experience and facilitates electronic payments for artisans, nautical operators and local merchants, strengthening the community economy,” she said.

Each module has a dedicated one gigabit per second link, two access points with a range of up to 50 meters and the capacity to simultaneously connect 200 devices, guaranteeing a stable and quality service for both visitors and residents.

The free signal can be picked up across more than 50 linear meters January 11, 2026

She said the project is part of a public connectivity network that began in 2023 in Cancun, with the installation of modules at Playa Delfines and Kilómetro Cero, which connect more than 2,500 devices daily.

In 2024, the expansion continued in Tulum, where each module connects more than 650 devices daily. With the addition of Puerto Morelos, the state is advancing in digital transformation, inclusion, and social welfare.

In July of 2025, Gignet, the company the supplies the Internet, began the hotspot project in central Puerto Morelos. The public Wi-Fi project included the installation of two public Wi-Fi modules with a coverage capacity of more than 50 linear meters.

These modules are located in Fundadores Park and Fishermen’s Wharf. Each module has a connection capacity of 200 simultaneous devices.

Two modules support the free centrally located Wi-Fi service January 11, 2026.
