Cancun lifeguards pull drowning tourist to shore

Cancun, Q.R. — An afternoon at the beach in Cancun was almost a tragedy after a swimmer was swept away by the current. On-duty lifeguards were quick to enter the sea and pull the struggling swimmer to shore.

Other swimmers alerted the Civil Protection lifeguards at Playa Gaviota Azul in the Cancun Hotel Zone of the pending disaster. The man, identified as only as a national tourist, was pulled to shore by lifeguards after struggling against the strong current.

The incident happened at kilometer 9.5 of the Cancun Hotel Zone Wednesday afternoon. Civil Protection paramedics evaluated the swimmer, who was reported exhausted, but not in need of a hospital transfer.
