Othón P. Blanco, Q.R. — At least six people were killed Monday in a two-vehicle heavy unit crash in the municipality of Othón P. Blanco. The accident happened early Morning morning near the town of Tres Garantías in the central southwest part of the state.
On Monday afternoon, the State Attorney General confirmed the death of six people, a figure that has since reportedly risen to nine. At the initial scene, six people were killed after a passenger bus and dump truck collided on a section of Escárcega-Chetumal federal highway.
At the time of the accident, 23 people were reported injured, several seriously.

The driver of the bus, which was coming from Chiapas, collided with a dump truck at highway speeds. The accident happened around 5:00 a.m. Early information suggests the driver of the bus weaved into the opposite lane, colliding head-on with the heavy industrial unit.

Both vehicles were destroyed in the collision. Dozens of bus passengers were injured and at least six killed. Surviving passengers were forced out through broken windows.

Emergency services were at the scene for more than seven hours attending to the injured, the removal of dead bodies and the eventual clearing of debris and the two vehicles.

The bus was heading to the state capital city of Chetumal at the time of the accident. Authorities have not confirmed an official cause of the deadly crash.
