Armed robber surprised when police close in using GPS on stolen cell phone

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — An armed man who robbed employees at a Playa del Carmen seafood restaurant ditched his load and fled after police located him with the GPS from one of the stolen cell phones.

The armed man entered the seafood joint early in the morning in hopes of making a getaway with cash, however, since there was no cash, the man stripped employees of the cell phones instead. After he left, police were called and were able to track the man using the GPS on one of the stolen phones.

It was in the Bellavista neighborhood that police began chasing him, however, feeling them closing in, he decided to ditch the stolen goods and make a run for it on foot. The alleged thief was successful in getting away after police lost track of him in a thickly treed area of jungle.
