Lázaro Cárdenas, Q.R. — An active police officer in the municipality of Lázaro Cárdenas has been charged for selling driver’s licenses. The Special Prosecutor’s Office for Combating Corruption in the State of Quintana Roo (FECCQROO) officially charged the now inactive officer this week.
The unnamed senior officer has been charged with illicit use of power. He is also being charged for damages to municipal coffers after creating a patrimonial detriment to both the state and the municipality.
He was caught during an undercover operation last week. After being tipped off he was selling licenses from police headquarters, police posted undercover officers as interested buyers.
On June 10, he was arrested red handed after committing the illegal act by eliminating applicant requirements for a license and for accepting a payment in exchange.
