Veering highway driver blamed for two car rollover

Felipe Carrillo Puerto, Q.R. — Drivers who crashed head on were lucky to walk away from the late morning accident. Federal highway motorists stopped to help those inside the two cars that were found rolled.

The accident happened on the Carrillo Puerto-Muyil highway when one of the drivers crossed the center lane. One driver said she was traveling south when an oncoming car was veering in and out of her lane. She was unable to avoid the car.

Both cars hit nearly head on, leaving one on its roof and the other on its side.

Felipe Carrillo Puerto City Council members who were passing the scene stopped to help the drivers. The driver of one of the cars was trapped inside but was rescued by city council members who also cordoned off the area and directed vehicular traffic.

National Guard Highways arrived at the scene to determine responsibilities and clear the highway. Both cars were destroyed in the collision. Neither driver was seriously injured.
