Two missing divers successfully located off Cozumel

Cozumel, Q.R. — Members of the Marina of Mexico report rescuing two divers off the island of Cozumel who were considered missing after their boat captain lost sight of them.

The Secretaría de Marina says that the two divers were in the sea when the boat’s captain lost visual contact due to rough waters. The captain then called nautical authorities to begin a search for the two men.

The navigation log indicates that at 7:00 a.m., the vessel María Selene sailed approximately three nautical miles from the north lighthouse of the island. That was where the captain lost sight.

His report of the missing divers led to the mobilization of a Marina helicopter and a warning from the Captaincy of the Puerto to other area boats for the possible sighting of the men.

It was at 2:20 p.m. when the Marina reported the successful rescue mission of locating the two men, one 25 years old and the other, 52. They say that both were are in good health.

Earlier this month, four people were rescued off Isla Mujeres after the captain of a diving boat also lost visual sight of them in the water. There were no injuries reported in either incident.
