Two criminal cell take downs leads to 10 in Cancun police custody

Cancun, Q.R. — The State Attorney General’s Office reports that investigative work has lead to the arrest of a group of 10 alleged involved in criminal activity around Cancun.

The criminal activity includes weapons, drugs and homicide charges for the nine adults and one minor who were taken into police custody in two different take-downs. The arrests were carried out in both SM 254 and SM 248 of Cancun by city police who officials say, are related to various investigations, among them, homicide.

In a press release, la Fiscalía General del Estado explained that after several months of surveillance and follow-up, sufficient information was obtained to locate members of a criminal group that were operating in the city.

During the early morning hours of Sunday, Cancun police moved forward with the arrests of six men in SM 254 who were found in possession of 135 street doses of drugs and five firearms. Police say the group had just left their home and were about to board a vehicle when the arrests took place. They were also found with tactical gear, radio equipment and cell phones, handcuffs and ball hats from the criminal cell Cártel de Jalisco Nueva Generación.

During their second arrest, which took place in SM 248, la Fiscalía General del Estado detailed four people were taken into police custody after being found with 175 street doses of marijuana, two guns and numerous rounds of ammunition.
