Puerto Morelos, Q.R. — Police have detained a tourist park cameraman in Puerto Morelos they say is a regional criminal leader. Mario Jair “N” was arrested June 18 in Leona Vicario in the municipality of Puerto Morelos for his alleged involvement as the leader of a criminal cell operating in the area.
During his arrest, officers seized a variety of narcotics, drug paraphernalia and several vehicles. According to information provided by State Attorney General Raciel López Salazar Monday, Mario Jair “N” held a local job as a cameraman at a Puerto Morelos tourist park.
Salazar said during their investigation, authorities learned he also directed drug dealing operations in the form of sales along with a group of hitmen under his command.

The group under his command collected extortion payments from businesses and street vendors and were used as informants or “hawks” to warn of the presence of authorities in the area, Salazar said Monday, adding that investigations continue to locate other members of the criminal cell.
