SSC plans ambitious police recruitment in coming year

Riviera Maya, Q.R. — The Secretaria de Seguridad Ciudadana (SSC) of Quintana Roo is hoping to add another 750 elements to its force in 2025. The SSC says they intend to continue adding elements until they have at least 4,500.

SSC head Julio César Gómez Torres

Julio César Gómez Torres who heads the Secretariat of Citizen Security (SCC) of Quintana Roo, says the ambitious new hiring project is part of their 2025 budget.

He said currently they have just over 2,200 officers around the state and anticipate hiring 750 more per year until the end of the current governor administration, which ends in 2027. He says by then, the state would have around 4,500 officers.

Gómez Torres said at the start of the administration two years ago, the corporation began with only 1,532 officers, of which a large percentage were assigned as bodyguards or drivers for state officials.

Due to that, he said there was zero state police presence in the municipality of Felipe Carrillo Puerto and a minimal state police presence in Tulum, Solidaridad, Cozumel and Benito Juárez.

He added that with the new budget increase request for 2025, new patrols and improved salaries are also part of the package. However, the budget request made for next year has not yet been approved.
