Shoppers disarm and subdue would-be Tulum grocery store robber

Tulum, Q.R. — A young man who was in the process of robbing a Tulum grocery store was subdued by area residents instead. On Saturday night, the 22-year-old walked into a mom and pop grocery store where he pulled out a gun and demanded money.

Rather than giving him cash, he was taken down by a group of shoppers who managed to disarm him, while others ran in search of a patrol unit. He was held until police arrived.

Taken into custody was 22-year-old A.N. from Bacalar. At the time of his arrest, police also took away his loaded revolver. He is being investigated for other similar area robberies.
