Puerto Aventuras, Q.R. — A fourth phase of a Puerto Aventuras condominium project has been rejected by the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (Semarnat). The Caleta Maya Condominium project, which sought to build a 10-unit complex as a fourth phase, was denied permits.
The project expansion was submitted to the Secretaría de Medio Ambiente y Recursos Naturales (Semarnat) in March of 2023. According to a recent publication in the Semarnat Ecological Gazette, the fourth stage project request to build over a 4 hectare plot of land was rejected.
Aside from the construction of a 10-unit building, the condominium project sought to carry out landscaping which would have included the building of roads that would have affected a total of 1,804 square meters of vegetation.
Specifically, 1,604 meters of coastal scrub and secondary vegetation would have been destroyed for the construction of roads while another 200 square meters would have been altered to create green area spaces.
The condo project owner can still challenge the ruling.
