Driver chased by police for reckless driving wanted for Cancun murder

Cancun, Q.R. — Cancun police who chased a car for reckless driving found the driver was wanted for murder. The incident happened in SM 259 Wednesday morning when patrolling officers saw the car being driving recklessly.

They followed the car to a parking lot of an apartment building where driver fled on foot and managed an escape between the buildings. Inside the car they located a piece of identification that belonged to him.

Using city surveillance, police were able to confirm the identification found matched that of the driver. They were also able to confirm the driver had an outstanding warrant in Cancun for homicide. They towed the car and continue their search to locate the driver.

In a statement, the SSC (Secretaría de Seguridad Ciudadana) reported “during surveillance patrols, members of the Citizen Security Secretariat’s Investigation Group noticed a driver driving recklessly, speeding, nearly losing control and colliding with another vehicle.

“As the driver posed a risk to traffic and the safety and lives of pedestrians in the area, he was caught in a parking lot on Avenida 20 de Noviembre, heading toward Arco Norte, in the Villas Otoch Paraíso subdivision, superblock 259 in Cancun.

“At that moment, the driver ran off, disappearing from view among the buildings. The gray Mazda vehicle with Quintana Roo license plates was inspected. The vehicle had scratches on the lower part of the front bumper which was detached.

“A voter ID card was found inside, so the name of the person appearing on the ID was verified with C5. The person had a valid court order for aggravated homicide.”
