Puerto Aventuras, Q.R. — Puerto Aventuras Mayor Gilberto Gómez Martínez has met with authorities to discuss a possible overpass. Gilberto met with the Playa del Carmen Technical Committee on Mobility and Road Safety Wednesday morning where they talked about the possibility of building an overpass at the retorno of the Hard Rock Riviera Maya hotel.

Mayor Gómez Martínez explained that the proposal arose from the high number of accidents reported at that location. “You’ve seen them there… in that place,” he said referring to the high number of highway incidents just outside the town.
Gómez Martínez explained that committee members agreed that any overpass project would need to be carried out by the federal government since the highway is under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications, and Transportation (SICT).

It is the second time since May that Mayor Gómez Martínez has proposed the construction of another overpass for Puerto Aventuras. “With responsibility and commitment, I attended the Third Regular Session of the Technical Committee on Mobility and Road Safety. There, the proposal to adapt the Puerto Aventuras return route on Highway 307 was presented, a key action to provide greater road safety for all,” he posted Wednesday.

While authorities toss around the overpass idea, Gómez Martínez said the installation of highway speed bumps has been suggested as a short-term solution to slow drivers down where dozens of vehicles a day use the highway retorno.
