Puerto Aventuras, Q.R. — Mayor Gilberto Gómez Martínez says he has proposed the construction of another overpass for Puerto Aventuras. The proposal was made Wednesday during a city hall meeting in Playa del Carmen.

According to Gómez Martínez, a second overpass is urgently needed due to the high number of traffic accidents along the federal highway. He says many of those accidents are caused by vehicles turning off the highway and into the town.
Gómez Martínez specifically pointed out the high incidence of accidents in front of the Hard Rock Hotel near where the highway retorno is located. He reported that Wednesday, he met with members of the State Government’s Technical Mobility Commission to explain what he says is a critical situation.
He said that on a near daily basis, there are reports of accidents at the entrance to the town and the Puerto Maya subdivision due to congestion and a lack of adequate infrastructure.
Gómez Martínez explained that vehicles traveling north, upon descending the vehicular bridge, are unable to stop in time upon reaching the return lane, which is often congested with cars trying to enter Puerto Aventuras.

Adding to this conflict is the constant flow of motorcycle taxis, that while carrying passengers to the entrance, are forced to use the same route to return, increasing the risk of accidents.
The Mayor described his Wednesday meeting with state and municipal authorities as positive, noting that there is a willingness to address the mobility issues that is affecting drivers.
