Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Authorities have made a second arrest on allegations of vote buying for the new mayor’s position for Playa del Carmen. On Saturday, Emiliano Vladimir “N” was also arrested for allegedly promising money in exchange for votes.
The State Attorney General (FGE) reported that an investigation by the Special Prosecutor’s Office in Combating Electoral Crimes requested an arrest warrant for Emiliano Vladimir “N”, who was detained in the city of Playa del Carmen.
The investigated person was seized from a black vehicle with license plates from the State of Yucatán.
In a statement, the FGE said “Emiliano Vladimir “N” was a local deputy for the Party of the Democratic Revolution (PRD) in the XV Legislature. He currently works as coordinator of neighborhood leaders who are dedicated to buying votes for a candidate for the Municipal Presidency of Solidaridad.
“According to the first investigations, the women hired were instructed to collect 20 voter credentials, which were uploaded to a web platform. For this process, they previously received a username and password from Emiliano Vladimir “N”. Once the required number was met, they received a cash payment in the amount of 1,000 pesos.”
Emiliano Vladimir “N” is the second person arrested in as many days for electoral fraud. On Friday, the FGE announced the arrest of Guadalupe del Rosario “N”, for the same crime. Local authorities have not said, in either case, who the candidate votes were being bought for.
