Residents loot live chickens after flatbed skids off federal highway

José María Morelos, Q.R. — The driver of a semi that overturned Friday was able to walk away. The unharmed driver was transporting a load of fowl when he lost control taking a sharp corner.

The long flatbed ended up on its side after a tire caught the soft shoulder gravel and dragged the truck in. The accident happened around 1:00 p.m. on the Polyuc-José María Morelos highway.

National Guard Highways were at the scene of the federal highway accident where they made arrangements for an industrial tow truck to remove the flipped flatbed.

By the time they arrived, however, residents from the surrounding communities of Chunhuhub, Polyuc and José María Morelos had already captured and looted the live chickens.

The flatbed skidded off the highway and into should brush, leaving traffic unaffected. National Guard were at the scene more than three hours waiting for the vehicle to be towed.
